GENERAL SCHOOL NEWS

Leave your handprint for reconciliation! This week at lunch, students and staff are encouraged to make an orange handprint on the giant poster hanging in the front of the school. Please come be a part of this school wide reconciliation activity. On Friday, September 29th, please wear your orange shirts and be a part of our school orange shirt photo at lunchtime!

For students who are registered to park in the school parking lot - thank you for submitting your paperwork. All vehicles need to be registered with the main office. Please do not park in any spots marked “Reserved” or “Visitor”. Thank you!

EVENTS

School Garden Club meets Tuesdays and Thursdays at lunch in room 40. Please see Mr. Siebert if you have any questions.

The Textile Arts Club is meeting on Tuesday and Thursday at lunch in the textiles room which will be open every Monday to Thursday for students to have lunch and create their projects.

It’s Grad Spirit Week! Today is Barbie and Ken day, and tomorrow is Lumberjack day!

Hey Grads! The first scholarship meeting is today at lunch time in the Learning Commons. See you there!

For any students interested in applying to American Universities, there is an information session at SMU October 3rd.  See Mr. Berger in the counselling offices area for more details.

CAREER CENTRE

Big Brothers and Big Sisters is looking for volunteers! A rep from the organization will be here Thursday, September 28th to talk about the opportunity as well as accept application forms that are available in the Career Centre NOW! Come fill one out and join us over the lunch break next Thursday to chat about connecting with a child as a mentor. 

Listen up! The Young Engagement Program (AKA YEP) is offering Foodsafe and First Aid training at a MASSIVE discount. These fun and interactive training programs are super handy life skills and look great on a resume. Register before it's too late! You must be a YEP member to participate but YEP membership is free. First come first served

Are you interested in a career in Early Learning & Care or ELC? Come on the field trip to Camosun on October 11th! This is a great way to learn more about the Health Care Programs offered at Camosun College. Space is limited and it's first come first served. Permission forms are available now in the Career Centre and due October 5th.

Are you interested in a career in law enforcement? Police Camp 2024 is taking applications! Police Camp is a youth leadership program for Grade 10-12s which includes daily physical training, participation in day and night simulation activities, drill instruction and more! It's full on and a fantastic way to learn more about all things Police.

As always for all things careers, more information is posted on the career board, or you can always pop in and talk to Heidi or Katherine in the career centre!

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

The presentation and cultural orientation has now been rescheduled to this Thursday September 28th in the Learning Commons for International students to learn more about the history and legacy of the residential school system in Canada. Please bring your own lunch. Attendance is mandatory.

There is a meeting on Friday September 29th at lunch time in the Learning Commons for any International students participating in the whale watching field trip.
