GENERAL SCHOOL NEWS

This PRIDE month, did you know that:

  • The term "two-spirit" was coined at the Third Annual Inter-tribal Native American, First Nations, Gay and Lesbian American Conference in Winnipeg in 1990. “Two-Spirit” is a term used within some Indigenous communities which encompasses sexual, spiritual and gender identity. Attributed to Elder Myra Laramee, it's a translation of the Anishinaabemowin term.

There will be a Spain/Portugal meeting today at lunch hour in room 49. All students who are going, or any students who are interested in going, should attend this meeting. See you at lunch!

An Evening of Performing Arts will be on Tuesday, June 18. Performances from Intermediate/Advanced dance, Junior Musical Theatre and Stelly's musicians! Doors open at 6:30, the show starts at 7pm! Tickets are $5 at the door.

Today is the last day of Cafeteria Service 

Grade 12 yearbook pickup will be at break in the small gym today

Grade 11, 10, 9 yearbook pickup will be at lunchtime, listen for announcements

June 18 - Last day of regular classes before moving to Copernican schedule

June 19 - Block 1 8:30am to 11:15am; Curriculum completion 12:00pm to 2:35pm

June 20 - Block 2 8:30am to 11:30am; Curriculum completion 12:15pm to 3:05pm

June 21 - Curriculum completion 8:30am to 11:15am; Block 3 12:00pm to 2:35pm

June 24 - Curriculum completion 8:30am to 11:30am; Block 4 12:15pm to 3:05pm

 

GRAD 2024 Important information…please read & mark your calendars!

There’s still time to get your 50/50 tickets in support of the 2024 Grads! The parent planning committee has a final draw to help raise money for the students’ After Grad! The draw will be done live at their meeting on Wednesday, June 19th! Help support the students’ After Grad by purchasing your 50/50 tickets online here!

We are still in need of parent volunteers for the Dry After Grad! Please come out and help out where you can - it takes a village to help run this amazing event! You can sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0C4EACAF22A0F49-49946039-parent

Grads, if you’re planning on attending the Dry After Grad, your $20 payment is now due. Please e-transfer (stellysgrad24@gmail.com). If you have also been notified of an authorized guest, their payment is also due. Please include yours and your guests’ names in the memo field. Cash payments can also be made in person during the clothing drop off times.


The casual clothing drop off dates/times are as follows:

Where: Stelly’s Front Entrance

When: Wednesday June 19 - 8:15am to 8:45am

Thursday June 20 - 8:15am to 8:45am

Monday June 24 - 11:45am to 12:15pm

Grad Tickets:

Due to high demand, the Graduate Recognition Ceremony tickets are now sold out, however, parents are welcome to follow up with UVic closer to, or on, the 27th to see if there are any extras available. They can be reached at 250-721-8480.

CAREER CENTRE

Work Experience - are you on the list for summer Work Experience? Make sure to complete your Work Safe BC Assignment online and bring Heidi your resume and cover letter to get your workbook and then you're on your way to start counting those hours as soon as summer hits.

The new Red Barn Market by the airport is opening at the end of July and they are looking for staff. There's a hiring fair for all departments this Saturday at the Mary Winspear Centre from 10am to 2pm. Bring your resume and cover letter and dress to impress! 

YEP is still looking for volunteers for their fabulous Canada Day event! Help flip pancakes for the Sidney Lions Club breakfast, hand out candy in the parade, or lend a hand at the BBQ Brunch! Email   Y - E - P at beacon C - S dot C A for more info! (yep@beaconcs.ca)
