GENERAL SCHOOL NEWS

Congratulations to all the performers at last night’s “Evening of Performing Arts”! You are all amazing and talented young performers - thank you for putting on a great show!

The BIPOC & Allies Club will meet in the conference room at lunch today.

Please be aware that the Learning Commons will be closed today during blocks 3 and 4. The Career Centre is also closed until 10:45 today. Thank you for also keeping the hallways quiet during these assessment times.

As Semester 1 comes to completion on January 31st, we have an adapted (Copernican) schedule beginning on January 27th to allow for assessments to take place. Full details of this schedule can be found here.

Student schedules for semester 2 have now been uploaded to Brightspace and available for viewing. Brightspace is the same platform used to access report cards. If needed, here is a reminder to access/set up a Brightspace account

From January 27-31, the Stelly’s cafeteria will be CLOSED and there will be NO CAFETERIA SERVICE for the entire week (no morning break, lunch or pizza sales will take place). Please bring snacks and a lunch with you if you plan on being in school for each whole day.

ATHLETICS

Come out and cheer on our Senior Girls basketball team for their last two home games coming up! 

Monday January 27th - they play Mt. Doug at 5:45pm

Monday February 3rd - they take on Esquimalt at 5:45pm

GRAD 2025

Just a reminder to grade 12’s that the deadline for most University applications is January 31st! Come on down to the Career Centre if you need any help completing your application.

 

Applications for UVic’s September 2025 intake are available online now through EducationPlanner BC and the deadline to apply is January 31st.

 

BOTTLE DRIVE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for the Grad 2025 Dry Grad Bottle Drive this Saturday, January 25th from 9am-12pm!  We are looking for student and parent volunteers. Students can receive 4 hours volunteer time each bottle drive. If you would like to help out, please email Kim at kimmik@telus.net

For any Grad who has not yet had their photo taken, or you require retakes, please book now as you do need one for the yearbook - please book your sitting now! Prestige will be onsite from January 27th to 29th in room 13 and the link to sign up for your spot is available here. You will need to enter the province and city (which is Saanichton) and then proceed by selecting Stelly’s. Please note there is a $30 sitting fee that is payable at the time of your appointment. Graduates must have a photo taken for the yearbook, however, if you only wish to have the yearbook photo taken, the $30 fee will be waived.

 

SCRAP METAL RECYCLING: There’s a large blue metal recycling bin in the upper parking lot by the street that is awaiting your scrap metal donations. If you have any metal stuff at home, in your yard or in the shed that you want to get rid of, it’s accessible 24/7 for drop-off and proceeds go towards the 2025 Stelly’s Dry Grad!

 

CAREER CENTRE

 

The Canadian Armed Forces is coming Tuesday, January 28th at lunchtime in the Career Centre to talk to students about available programs and summer programs.

 

Butchart Gardens is having their annual hiring fair Wednesday, February 5 from 5:30-7:30pm. If you would like to have your resume & cover letter checked over, please see us in the Career Centre.

 

Gwaii Engineering is excited to invite students to participate in a day of job shadowing at their office in Victoria. This will be a day-long job shadow, offering students an opportunity to see what it's like to be an engineer/scientist working for an Indigenous-owned civil and environmental engineering company. Please head to the Career Centre to find out how to apply. The deadline to apply is Friday, January 31.

 

Tsukino-Con is looking for volunteers February 15-17 at Uvic. Volunteers will receive free/discounted tickets, depending on how many hours they volunteer. Sign up here
