GENERAL SCHOOL NEWS

 

To celebrate Asian Heritage Month, the Stelly's BIPOC & Allies Club will be screening the movie "Rice Boy Sleeps" today, from 11:15 AM to 1:15 PM in Room 41. This film tells the story of a young Korean boy and his mother's life in Canada, featuring Canadian actors, a Canadian director, and filmed in various locations across Canada. To attend, you must have your Block 3 teacher's approval. A sign-in sheet will be used to track attendance. Everyone is welcome!

Cafeteria service will be closed today. We will be offering pizza and cinnamon buns for sale at lunch in support of the school garden. $3 per slice and we will use the cafeteria lineup for sales.

 

Global Perspectives 11 will be running a teen donation drive in support of the Sanctuary Youth Centre in Victoria. There will be bins in the main foyer next week to collect clothing, games, non-perishable food items, books & old text books.

 

Stelly's Senior Drama Presents: 

"The Bold, the Young and the Murdered", a comedic murder mystery on the set of a failing soap opera.

June 4th-6th at 7pm, and June 7th at 1pm. Doors open 30 minutes before showtime.

Tickets are $10 at the Stelly's front office now and at the door.

 

Grad PASS is here and available to all grads! BC Transit is providing passes to all grade 12 students to ride the bus for free on any two days during June. The GradPASS program helps students consider all transportation options to plan a safe ride home at graduation time and throughout their lives. Please come to the main office to pick yours up today!

The Stelly's Dry Grad parent committee are looking for donations of any kind to fill the Grad raffle baskets for the Dry After Grad Celebration. Please drop off any gift cards/unused gifts/toiletries/flasks/mugs/candies/ chocolates/candles/ball caps/cash/anything a Grad may like and drop off in the office. Accepting donations this week. Many thanks!

IMPORTANT DATES COMING UP

 

June 17 - Last day of regular classes

 

June 18 - Block 1 8:30-11:15am, curriculum completion in afternoon

 

June 19 - Block 2 8:30-11:30am, curriculum completion in afternoon

 

June 20 - Block 3 12:00-2:35pm, curriculum completion in morning

 

June 23 - Block 4 12:15-3:05pm, curriculum completion in morning

 

GRAD 2025 - Lots of information will be coming in the next few weeks, if you are or have a grad, please read this section thoroughly

An updated list of ineligible grads has been posted in the main foyer near the counselling area. There are still over 30 students missing one or more requirements. Please don't assume you're good - double check the list!  See Mrs. Pryer in the office if your student number is listed - your grad ceremony tickets depend on it.

May 24th (Saturday) - The 2025 Grad Bottle Drive is happening in the Stelly’s parking lot from 9am to 1pm! We are hoping you can come out to volunteer, but we are also looking for any returnables you’d be willing to donate. This is our parent committee’s last bottle drive before the 2026 grad parents take over, so please come out and support our fundraising effort! If there are any 2026 grad parents interested in coming out on May 24th to see what the bottle drives are all about, we’d love to have you join us in the fun(draising)! 

May 24th - Come out and support the Grad Parents’ last Meat Draw fundraiser at Brewsky’s tomorrow from 2-4pm (there will also be a 50/50 draw!). Hope to see you there!

May 27th - Guest Application deadline. Grads, if you are planning on bringing a guest to the dinner/dance and After Grad, please complete the Guest Application (payment is required with paperwork). Forms can be picked up in the office and returned there as well.

Uvic Registration 101: A representative from Uvic will be here TODAY at lunch to do a presentation on the process of registering for classes at Uvic. Presentation will be about: Selecting first-year courses, building course timetables, and navigating the registration system. Anyone planning on attending Uvic in the fall should attend this presentation.

The Parents Dry After Grad Committee is looking for parent volunteers on June 26th! If your student is graduating and you want to be a part of making memories, please head to our signup  (https://signup.com/group/80286598095) and choose your time and activity. We are also looking for any parents of grade 11’s who would like to be a part of the evening to get a first-hand look at how it all rolls out. Please sign up through the same link. Thank you everyone in advance for your contributions - this event takes A LOT of people to make happen, so please consider giving some time to make this memorable.

Grads, are you looking for a dress or tux for graduation? The Magic Wand Project is a non-profit organization that offers an eco-friendly and inexpensive alternative to grad outfits for boys and girls. They rent out grad wear for a small cleaning fee. Details can be found at www.themagicwandproject.ca.

SCRAP METAL RECYCLING: There’s a large blue metal recycling bin in the upper parking lot by the street that is awaiting your scrap metal donations. If you have any metal stuff at home, in your yard or in the shed that you want to get rid of, it’s accessible 24/7 for drop-off and proceeds go towards the 2025 Stelly’s Dry Grad.

CAREER CENTRE

Coast Guard Day is happening Thursday, June 5th. If you are interested in learning about careers in the Coast Guard, see us in the Career Centre for field trip forms. Permission forms are due by May 30th.

Whistler Adventure School is doing a virtual presentation on Tuesday, June 10 at lunchtime in the Career Centre. If you are interested in post-secondary options or GAP year opportunities with WAS please come to the presentation.
